We look at how printers can create their AI prompts for tremendous images and exciting marketing copy.

With the rapid development of AI image generators, a hands-on approach to graphics creation is quickly becoming obsolete. Now, another skill is needed: creating effective prompts for AI to produce the image you need.

And it’s not only image generation. From job briefs to letter writing, from time management to commercial efficiencies, how you set an AI system on the path to the results you want is crucial. The old saying that a computer is only as clever as the person working it has never been more accurate.

Here we look at the most up-to-date advice on how to create effective AI prompts, starting with artwork generation and going on to look at general rules for letters, invoices and written marketing content.

Art prompting – improving on the 3S’s

The first thing we need to do to achieve effective image generator prompts is cover three basic key details – the three ‘S’s: subject, setting and style.

For anybody who has used AI image generators before, this is quite obvious; it doesn’t get much simpler than the prompt: ‘a cat sat on a mat’.

We could leave it there and see what the AI creates. But to create the image that is produced to the desired image that you require, we then add style elements: ‘a cartoon cat sat on a mat’.
But how can we make that basic prompt even more refined?

One way is to state in your prompt what the role of the image is, for example, ‘hero image for cat food manufacturing company’s home page’ or ‘t-shirt graphic for cat lovers’.

You can also address the style of the image, using five or six specific details:

To begin with, you could include the desired aspect ratio; Then you could say how you’d like the image framed – close-up, wide-angle, medium shot, etc – adding extra details, like low angle, high angle, and so on; Explain what medium you’d like it to appear as. We used the example of a cartoon cat above, but it could be a water colour, a vintage poster, anything you can think of; If you have any desired colours or a desired palette, include details about that – for example, pastel shades or neon colours; Lighting is important, especially if you are aiming for a…...
