Looking to diversify your services? The interior décor market offers great opportunities

Interior décor is one of the largest growing markets in digital printing. Wouter Derichs, Sales & Marketing Director, Large Format Graphics at Canon Europe discusses the rapid evolution of print technology and how this is constantly creating new and exciting opportunities.

In 2024, the global printed signage market within interior décor will, it is speculated, be worth 54 billion dollars. *This has long since established the interior décor market as a very lucrative investment with sustainable growth for print service providers.

The biggest area of growth is in wall covering solutions such as wallpapers, murals, and textiles. Thanks to advances in digital print, these applications are now completely customisable, bringing customers’ visions to life. When done correctly, interior décor can cleverly convey a brand’s story and influence our perception of a space.

But not only retail and hospitality have discovered the power of bespoke interior décor. During the pandemic, there has been a 185% rise in demand for personalised designs in the everyday consumer’s home **.

Digital print means consumers can now order tailored products based on criteria such as how long they want them to last, what surface they are applying it to, and whether they want to install it themselves. Additionally, thanks to digital print, these bespoke designs now come in at a lower price point for both the customer and print service provider, allowing for more frequent alterations.

To keep up with the burgeoning demand for bespoke wall coverings and printed décor, more and more print service providers are expanding into large format printing for the interior décor market. Even printers with no previous experience in interior décor are capitalising on the trend in the market by allowing customers to design their own products.

However, without a streamlined production set-up to fit your business needs, it can be hard to establish yourself in the market and remain competitive while meeting customer expectations.

To illustrate how print service providers can easily  diversify into interior décor applications, at FESPA Global Print Expo 2021, Canon will showcase its UVgel Wallpaper Factory. A seamless, fully automated end-to-end solution featuring the Colorado 1650 in conjunction with other products to create a modular, scalable production line to fit your production needs.

Canon will also be displaying the Arizona 135 GT flatbed printer to further highlight the diverse scope of interior décor applications that can be printed on a range of rigid and flexible substrates. The printer enables you to diversify your offering of applications from printing directly onto wood, concrete, and glass to printing on tiles to create a bespoke kitchen backsplash. Its unique ability to deliver efficient, high-quality, edge-to-edge printing establish it as a highly versatile printer for producing interior décor applications.

In line with the FESPA 2021 theme, ‘Bringing Colour Back’, the Canon stand will show a wide range of colourful and interior décor applications, including posters, banners, floor graphics, and wallpaper, under the slogan: ‘The Taste of Colour’.

To further showcase the possibilities of our end-to-end solutions, we’ve collaborated with the Vegan Junk Food Bar, a vegan restaurant chain with a remarkable location in Amsterdam. Canon collaborated with designers to create monochrome wall coverings, furniture wraps, window - and floor foils, all printed on Canon’s large format equipment.  The monochrome design creates the illusion of a fully two-dimensional space, highlighting the colourful food in juxtaposition to the black and white café.
