Chris Smith, FESPAChris is the Head of Membership Services at FESPA.

He has overseen the launch of over 100 FESPA supported projects including an e-learning course; numerous seminars in many FESPA member countries; and also had a key involvement in the production of the FESPA Sensations book of screen printing effects. Chris works closely with all FESPA Associations and feels that his role puts him at the heart of the "FESPA family" having made many dear friends from around the world.

"I have decided to start a blog and will use the FESPA website to relay what has been happening in my FESPA world. The blog will also be about what will be happening in the weeks ahead. My aim is to update this weekly. On occasions the updates will be more frequent but on other occasions it might be updated fortnightly, especially if I am on holiday."

Serbian Seminar in Belgrade

thumb IMG_0138Back at work for just a day I then took a three day holiday in Jersey (which was so relaxing and sunny) but after this I was on my travels once more, this time to speak at a FESPA supported seminar organised by Dusan Golubovic at the local Belgrade University faculty of printing.

NSF AGM at Bo Norway

Michel and I had been invited to attend the AGM of the Norske Spesialtrykkeres Forening (NSF) over the next few days so we travelled direct from Prague to Bo in Telemark Norway, to participate in a mixed programme of meetings, seminars and a fun networking event in the snow.

The Print Adventures of Chris Smith: PART 1

Written by Chris Smith Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:31
I hope to have some really exciting news for our whole print community in a couple of weeks but until then, as I have been fairly quiet on the blog front for a while due to other pressing work issues, I have decided to write a short blog (split into 3) to update readers on what has been happening on the FESPA Association front.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Atelier fur Siebdruck in Switzerland, the home of printer extraordinaire, Lorenz Boegli. I have known Lorenz for about 13 years and seen much of his work through my involvement with the FESPA awards. Lorenz is a regular entrant and a regular winner of gold awards.
My latest blog was to be on technology but recent news made me think of writing something about counterfeiting instead. Counterfeiting is not new, it has been in existence for centuries. In fact copying and printing of fake currency has been going on since currency was first used and was especially prevalent in Roman times.

But it is a major crime which costs the global economy billions?

European Printers Owe Debt to one man!

Written by Chris Smith Wednesday, 20 July 2011 14:37
Once again, screen and digital printers all over Europe owe one man a considerable debt of gratitude for fighting on behalf of them, this time on the Eco label front. His support and contribution to this industry for over 40 years is considerable.

Can you afford not to be....

Green?

I have heard so much recently, especially from printers (but from many professionals in other industries) that they cannot afford to be green. Green substrates and inks are too expensive; their customers don't want it and whatever they might do in their business will make very little difference to the environment but in my view, now is the time to act. I admit to being into the green issue - but I am not a green evangelist wanting people to give up their cars and ride bikes, save whales and only eat organically grown food – but I firmly believe that if you are a printer, now is the time to act and carefully consider the benefits of going green. And furthermore, if you do it properly, you can actually save money in these tough economic times.

This will blow you away!

I was about to write my first blog of the New Year and decided to concentrate on three issues, the economy, energy and social media after reading three fascinating articles this week on these issues.

The first article I came across said “This will blow you away” and blow me away it did.

FESPA European Congress

Written by Chris Smith Wednesday, 24 November 2010 16:41
Last Friday, (19th November) my colleagues and I from FESPA Corporate (Nigel, Chris R. and Richard – a new member of the team), hosted the very first European Congress in Brussels. It would seem from feedback of delegates that the Congress was a great success with 95% saying that they thought it represented great value and 98% saying that they would come to another event.
