Our campaign for FESPA 2012 in Barcelona highlights the 'wider opportunities' that are open to Digital Man in 2012 and beyond. In a series of five Wider Opportunities blogs between now and the show, FESPA director of events Neil Felton delves into some key themes to give visitors a taste of possible routes to explore at the show.
If you find it getting harder and harder to make a living printing t-shirts then take a good look at the markets you serve. There are lots of niches where you can print specialty items, charge a premium, and put new wind in your sails, whether you're a screen printer or using digital direct-to-garment (DTG)technology.
I received the PrintWeek magazine at the end of last year that included "The Power of Print Communication Intelligence" insert which contained a survey where print buyers and marketers were asked a series of questions about their print and electronic marketing communications.

Answering questions about digital textile printing

The rush towards digital-textile signage shows no sign of slowing down, and any wide-format PSP keen to join this bandwagon needs to address several questions. Should it be UV pigment or dye-sub? And if dye-sub, should it be via transfer or direct? What do I need to know about fabric preparation and finishing? What do they really mean when they say that fabric, or a particular class of inks, is more sustainable?
