Mondi Xtreme chosen for UK Buses |

From 1 January 2008, onwards, Xanita will be supplying its Mondi Xtreme board to CBS Outdoor, as a new substrate to be used in printed advertising signage on UK busses. CBS Outdoor is the UK market leader in driving product sales through the effective use of campaigns prominently displayed on the famous London busses, the London Underground, Docklands’ Light Railway and the Tram. Of the three global companies shortlisted, Xanita’s Mondi Xtreme was selected and approved for its state of the art, repulpable and biodegradable properties.
Mondi Xtreme is a revolutionary board consisting of a bleached white paper liner and post consumer kraft waste inner base. The product has high moisture hold-out capabilities thanks to specialised coatings and exceptional internal fibre properties that ensure optimum outdoor performance. Due to its water and UV hold-out capabilities, Mondi Xtreme has a useful outdoor life of up to six months. No wax or polyethylene is used in the manufacturing process, resulting in a completely eco-friendly product that’s an excellent replacement for styrene.
In the global market, the pressure to remove PVC, Wax and PE barriers is constantly increasing. “We are therefore confident that this is the way of the future” says TB Levin, Xanita’s Director of Sales & Marketing, Europe (based in Sweden), who has driven the concept from the beginning. Levin is actively involved in both the Mondi collaboration as well as being an important link in the Xanita/CBS agreement. Joan Meyer, Xanita’s R&D manager, also played a key role in developing the product together with the Mondi Group.
Apart from bus and bus shelter advertising, other applications include real estate boards, promotional posters in filling station forecourts and street pole advertising. The product’s versatility lends itself to applications from train interiors to exhibition stands. Yet its robust nature in outdoor conditions, coupled with the essential properties of lightness and recyclability, is what makes the product stand head and shoulders above other competitors’ products.
