|
|
Epona is one of the pioneer promotional clothing companies to make garments using Fairtrade cotton.
This year, they hope to increase their Fairtrade clothing production by 100% and have purchased 450 tonnes of Fairtrade cotton from the Andhra Pradesh region of India.
Fairtrade Fortnight (Feb 25-March 9) – ‘Make Fairtrade Your Habit’ Fairtrade is big news in 2008.
• The Fairtrade Foundation are predicting a 50 per cent increase in sales of Fairtrade cotton.
• This will result in an estimated eightfold increase in sales from £6 million in 2007 to £45 million in 2008.
• Fairtrade cotton has been a huge success since it was launched in 2005 and is now the fastest-growing product group among six major categories of goods accredited by the Fairtrade Foundation.
Epona supplies fashion-forward, ethically produced garments By purchasing their cotton for 2008 in advance, Epona is helping 1500 farmers and their families in the Andhra Pradesh region of India to receive a Fair price for their cotton, plus an additional Fairtrade premium.
Epona is also supporting the Environmental Justice Foundation’s ‘Pick your cotton carefully’ campaign. From spring, every garment will have a new care label which will state where the cotton used to make the garment was grown in support of the EJF campaign, plus encourage customers to ‘be green’ and wash at 30.
Due to the huge success of their hoody collection, Epona is introducing a selection of new colours to their 2008 range. Epona’s hoodies come in a standard cut for men and a fitted style for women and are made using Fairtrade certified, in-conversion to organic cotton.
