Past President

Hellmuth Frey (DOB: 1947) joined the FESPA Board in 1996 and was President from 2005 until 2007.  Hellmuth visited his first FESPA exhibition in 1963 in Copenhagen.

He has presided over the German screen printing group within the Bundesverband Druck & Medien since 1983, and has worked closely with FESPA throughout this time, leading to his appointment to the FESPA board. In these roles, his primary focus has been on education and training, research, standardisation and international cooperation, especially through trade shows and seminars.

Along with his sister, Hellmuth is a director of the family business, Emil Frey KG Siebdruck und Schilder, founded 1945 in Hamburg and serving the regional and german speaking market for screen and digital printing with 12 employees.

Hellmuth is a fully apprenticed sign- and illuminated sign maker and master screen printer. Through his work with the BVDM, he has contributed to the redefinition of the training requirements for German screen printers and master screen printers, and the creation of screening and colour standards in screen-printing.

His unbending commitment to tradition and best practice in screen-printing is reflected in his board membership of the Zentralverband des deutschen Handwerks as spokesperson for the Gruppe graphische gestaltender Handwerke, and his presidency of the Bundesinnung fuer das Siebdrucker Handwerk.

Hellmuth is the father of five children and likes to contrast the pleasures of life in Hamburg with skiing in the Alps and other overseas travel.
