This presentation describes an installation of a full-colour inkjet system onto an existing flexo press in Gothenburg in Sweden. The prospect of retro-fitting inkjet to existing flexo equipment is very attractive to any label convertor who is seeing average run lengths reduce. The target is a combined system that can run flexo on long runs, inkjet on short runs and perhaps combine the two for medium-length jobs (for example printing block colours with flexo but text or photo images with inkjet). During any new project of this nature there are issues that arise, this presentation will explore these issues and describe the solutions found and the customer’s experience of the system after several months of use, and in particular how the cost-per-print of inkjet compares to flexo printing.
