Further Information about FESPA

What is FESPA?
FESPA is a federation of trade associations and an organiser of exhibitions and conferences for the screen and digital printing industry.  Formerly, the name FESPA stood for 'The Federation of European Screen Printers Associations'.  Now, with the advent of digital technology, FESPA is known by its acronym, which has worldwide recognition.  FESPA's objective is the promotion of screen printing and digital imaging through each of the 28 separate National Associations in Europe who are its members, together with its 6 Associate members associations in Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea and Thailand.

When and Why was FESPA formed?
FESPA was formed in 1962 by a small international group of screenprinters and suppliers to share knowledge on screenprinting technology, establish close co-operation between screenprinters and suppliers and promote screenprinting in Europe.

What does FESPA do now?
- Plans and promotes exhibitions and conferences for screen and digital printing and helps its National Associations by supporting projects and activities organised by them. Having organised many successful exhibitions in Europe, in December 2005, FESPA organised FESPA World Expo India, at Pragati Maidan Exhibition Centre, New Delhi, which was the first international exhibition for screen and digital printing in that region and will hold FESPA World Expo Asia Pacific in Bangkok, 27-29 November 2008.

In May 2006, FESPA organised a new pan-european event FESPA Digital Printing Europe which focused on emerging digital technologies in the areas of sign and graphics, textiles, white goods, glass ceramics, electronics and home furnishings at the RAI Exhibition Centre in Amsterdam, 16th-18th May 2006, RAI, Amsterdam. Following the immense success of this initial event, the second FESPA Digital exhibition will be held in Geneva, 1-3 April 2008.

Official statistics from FESPA 2007 held in Berlin, Germany, from 5th – 9th June confirmed that this was the biggest FESPA exhibition ever held.  The exhibition succeeded in breaking all previous records. FESPA once again confirmed its unrivalled position as the world’s largest trade show for screen and large format digital printing, at which over 661 exhibitors showcased their products. A record total of 24,232 individual visitors attended the five-day show, an increase of 20% on FESPA 2005 figures. A significant proportion of visitors returned to the halls on consecutive days, resulting in over 37,500 visits. An additional 9,000 exhibitor attendees, who are not included in the audited visitor numbers, were present at FESPA 2007.

Demonstrating FESPA’s growing reach as an international event, visitors came from over 125 countries. Just over 60% of visitors came from outside of Germany, and after the host nation, the top five countries in terms of visitor nationality were as follows: Italy, Poland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, and Spain. Reflecting the growth in Europe’s emerging markets, visitors from Eastern European countries represented 12% of the show’s overall attendance.

Visitors were able to experience many brand new products and developing technologies at the show, indicating once again that FESPA exhibitions present manufacturers with a perfect launch pad and route to market, enabling them to achieve maximum impact among their target audiences. Exhibitors were impressed not only with the volume of traffic to their stands, but particularly with the international profile of visitors and the attendance of decision-makers ready to make purchasing choices.

FESPA also organised FESPA World Expo India 2007, which took place in New Delhi last December and FESPA Digital 2008, 1-3 April in Geneva. FESPA will also organise a show in South America for the first time this year : FESPA México World Expo, in Mexico City, 21-23 August 2008 and will also make its debut in the Asia Pacific region with FESPA World Expo Asia Pacific, in Bangkok, Thailand, 28-30 November. A further FESPA Digital exhibition will take place in Amsterdam next year : FESPA Digital 2009, 12-14 May.

The next major FESPA show, FESPA 2010, returns to Munich, Germany in June 2010 (8th - 12th).

The FESPA website will be regularly updated with information about forthcoming shows.

- FESPA is working within the emerging markets in Central and Eastern Europe to promote screenprinting and wide format digital imaging by providing technical training information and through its programme of 'mini-FESPA's' comprising low cost product information booths and technical seminars.

- FESPA provides a regular forum for information exchange between member Associations resulting in help from the larger to the smaller Associations in recruitment, training and technical studies.

What about the Suppliers to the Screenprinting Industry?

In every country the suppliers have always been closely linked to the development of the National Associations. Many of these companies belong to FESPA National Associations so they too can benefit from FESPA activities.

FESPA is also working closely with the manufacturers of digital printing equipment and supplies in order to keep FESPA members informed about how these new developments can affect their businesses.
