Screen Printing onto Power Coated Metal (Black) 2 Months, 1 Week ago
I am not too familar with the screen printing process but do have a supplier I am working with (China) that is having trouble matching a specific Pantone color that was specificed (Pantone 485 C). Do to the black powder coated background they are having trouble understanding formulating the proper mixture to match the Pantone 485C as requested. They have tried many iterations of mixes but can't seem to get it right with the final result far from the target color. Are there suggestions someone can offer on how to provide the supplier with the proper mixture needed to match the Pantone 485C color? To me it sounds like a lot of trial and error. I'm ticking is this something the color supplier should get involved with to determine the correct mixture? Thanks for the help.

Dear Robert, one of our associates advises the following:

"It isn't possible to achieve a 485 red shade match that is opaque enough to cover the black background.

It will be quite a pastel looking match to contain sufficient white.

You could put a white down first then overprint a bright 485 match, but this depends if the job and the printer could register the overprint well enough."

Please let know how you get on, or if you have another question about this, please feel free to post again.
