FESPA Stand Debates

THE GREAT INNOVATION DEBATE

Innovation is the watchword for FESPA 2010. Continuing the Wide Network debate about the meaning of innovation and how to foster and apply innovation in your business, this is your chance to take part in THE live debate!
Chaired by: Duncan Macowan, Conference and Events Manager, FESPA

Panellists: Marcus Timson (Sales and Marketing Director FESPA), Lascelle Barrow (Augustus Martin Ltd, FESPA Board Member), Nicolas Hellmuth (Founder, President and Director of FLAAR), Roland Niggemeyer (Niggemeyer Bildproduktion GmbH & Co KG), Johannes Kemnitzer (Martin Et Karczinski), J.R Kraft (Co-Founder, Owner, BuildASign.com)

About the Panellists:

Lascelle Barrow - Lascelle co-founded Augustus Martin Limited at the age of 19, following his technical education at the London College of Printing. Now one of the Europe’s leading specialists in POS and outdoor advertising with a turnover of £35 million and a staff of 300, Augustus Martin was the first UK printer to use water-based UV screen inks, and has pioneered the introduction of new technology to the POS industry for over three decades. The company, a major employer and supporter of local charities in London’s East End, serves mainly UK-based customers, while also exporting globally on behalf of multinationals.
Lascelle’s professional focus is on innovation and the commercialisation of new technology and products. This interest is brought to bear in three professional roles; primarily as joint Managing Director of Augustus Martin, but also as chairman of print finisher TJ Finishing Ltd and chairman of speciality inks producer Small Products Ltd.
Married with six children, Lascelle enjoys spending any precious spare time on the golf course or on the ski piste, and supporting the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme to motivate young people.

Dr Nicholas Hellmuth dedicates his time to preparing evaluations of wide-format printers, inks, substrates, RIP software, flatbed cutters and CNC routers, laminators, professional digital photography and flatbed scanning equipment, and 3D scanning and 3D rapid prototyping printers. The purpose is to assist printshop owners and managers to learn about the pros and cons of wide-format inkjet printers, especially UV-curable flatbeds, but also solvent, eco, mild-, lite-, and bio-solvent printers, as well as water-based inks for textiles, giclee, and fine art photography. Nicholas obtains his information by spending time inspecting the printers inside the factories where they are manufactured, in Canada, Israel, Europe, US, Korea, China or Taiwan.
Dr Hellmuth then visits printshops around the world to interview the owners and printer operators to learn the good features as well as issues, quirks, and deficiencies of each printer, ink and substrate. Overall his documentation and comments on printers are read by over 470,000 people on UV and solvent printers, over one million people on water-based printers, inks and media, as well as about 400,000 photographers and over 150,000 artists who wish to learn about printing decor and giclee.
